BOATING.
YACHTING RACES POSTPONED. A comprehensive programme of boat races was arranged for Saturday afternoon, but in. nearly every case the events were abandoned owing to there being insufficient wind to in] I the vessel's sails. During, tho afternoon the harbour presented an admirable aspect. Dotted here and there were a large number of yachts, 'comprising almost the whole of tHe local fleet. Their sails were lifeless, and they appeared fixed to the one spot. YACHT RACES. The Port Nicholson Yacht > Club had for decision three laces, all of which were declared off. In the second-class event there were seven cojnpetitors, but not one completed -the course. The five starters in the third-class race were in the same predicament. In the fourth-class competition there were three entrants, viz., Tuna (3min), Maaharnii (3min), and Warehou (scr.). The Alaahanui retired after lying becalmed for some timo, but tho other two boats drifted round, the course. Warehou finished at 7.20 p.m., aaid Tuna at 7.45 p.m. The race is to be resailed, as it was not completed by 7 p.m. TO ARO SAILING CLUB. The weather being unfavourable to sailing, the Te Aro Sailing Club deferred its opening until next Saturday. THORNDON DINGHY CLUB. The smaller boats were more successfnl in the light weather. Consequently, the Thorndon Dinghy Sailing Club was enabled to dscide the first of a series of three championship races. The starters were Zel, Blowfly, Rona, and Vera. At the end of the first round, Zpl led by a few seconds from Blowfly, ■with Rona and Vera. a few minutes further behind in close company. The boats experienced a dead calm in Oriental Bay, and then wero favoured with a." faint breeze. The finish, which v.iis a close one, was as follows : — Zel (shr 27inin), Bipwfly (shr 29min), Vera-(shr 35min), and Ron'a (shr 40min). The W«dneseday evening conte&ts will bo initiated this week. MOTOR BOAT RACING. ■ The Port Nicholson Motor Boat Club <wr-s to have decided a relay race on Sn-turday afternoon, but the event was postponed owing to one of the competitors not putting in an appearance.
