NOTES AND COMMENTS. Royal Scotland (Seaton Delaval — Lady Hester) winner of the Trial Handicap at Takapuna, is a three-year-old half brother to Master Soult. He started three times as a two-year-old without earning a winning bracket. Royal Scotland is engaged in the Auckland Cup with the minimum weight. The Cambria Handicap field did not include any of the best two-year-olds. The winner Merrigee, by Merriwee — Merveilleux, is one of Mr. George Curries breeding. He sent four , yearlings to the Auckland summer sales, R. Hannon, the well-known trainer, bidding up to 65 guineas for Merrigee. The runner-up, Princess Soult (Soult — Princess Alice) was bred at Glenlpra' Park, and fetched 145 guineas at the yearlong sale. She is a full sister to Promotion (who went to Westralia), Grouchy (whose career was cut short by a fatal accident), and Sweet Alice. The other place-getter (Lady Waterford) js also a Soult. She was bred by Mr. George Currie, and was among a batch he sent to Auckland at the last summer sales. She was sold to Mr. G. Mills for 60 guineas. Tui Cakabau (Cuirassier — Hune) was easily 'the best performer on the fiat of the lot engaged in the Maiden Hui'dus. -He was given a run on 'the concluding day at Ellerslie and shaped weli, beins» prominent at tire last fence, although he did not finish in the first three. His full sister (Lady Hune) was a successful hurdler, as also was his dam. Tui Cakabau is not engaged in the Grafton Hurdles, but Urania, who finished third in Saturday's race, is in the Ellerslie lyace with the minimum weight. She is a full sister to Aqua Regia (Salvadau — Cloud), who was a good hurdle winner in the colours of J. B. "Williamson, who bred both horses. Urania beat a good field in the President's Handicap, one mile, at Ellerslie, earlier in the month. Leo, winne*. of the Tiri Hurdles at the North Shore, is an aged chestnut gelding by Leolantis (St. Leger's halfbrother) from Bracelet. He is owned by H. Weal, the Waikato sportsman, and is trained by Williams. At Ellerslie at the A.R.C. meeting earlier in the month Leo won the Manukau Hurdles and put' down a stronger field than he met on Saturday. Leo is engaged in the Grafton Hurdles at Ellerslie with 9.6. She will have to put up 71b extra for Saturday's win. CoromandeJ (Mensrhikoff — Garden Rose), who was not too well handled when he ran second in the Ascot Handicap on the concluding day at Ellerslie, was expected to make a good showing in the St. Andrew Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday. However, he was, withdrawn. Rimlock, who twelve months ago was unplaced behind the dead-heaters Advocate and Pohutu, is owned by his breeder, Mr. Donald M'Kinnon. He is a four-year-old brown gelding by Flintlock — Hesper, by Lochnes's—Dreamland (dam of Elysian). Hesper, by St. Leger^— Musket Maid, is full-sister to Okoarj, Waiuku and Rawhiri (who ie at the stud in , Canterbury) and Wellstock, who is siring winners in Queensland. Rimlock stays well, and might win a decent handicap this season. This time last year he won the Waitemata Handicap, one mile and a quarter,' at Ellerslie. At the Auckland meeting last month he ran second in the Maiden Plate, also ran over a mile and a quarter. He is not in the Auckland Cup, but Te Aroha, runner-up in the Takapuna race, is, with 7.7. She is a daughter of Lottie (an Auckland Cup winner). r THE SPAISE. HUTT PARK RACING CLUB. The second meeting of the Hutt Park Racing Club was held at the old racecourse on Saturday afternoon.
