PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT "SOCIAL"

A successful "social" was held in the New Century Hall on Friday, under the auspices of the Public Works Department workshops staff, the occasion being to bid farewell to Mr. J. R. Home, who is retring from the service 'to enter into business on his own account in Timaru.\ A most enjoyable evening was spent, about 120 persons being present. The following gentlemen contributed to the musical programme :—: — Messrs Twohill, Hobman, Dee Bros., Coltman, Chapman, Lambert, Brown, Barry, Goldfinch, Lemmon, Elliott, Sneddon, Hull, and Cummings. The accompanists were Messrs. Fleming and Nicholson. During the evening Mr. G. E. Smith presented Mr. Home with an illuminated address and a gojd albert suitably inscribed, and Mrs. Home with a silver teapot, also inscribed. The supper room was tastefully decorated with many flags. The tables were gaily decked with flowers, . thanks being accorded to Mesdames Oliver, Carman, Smith, Scott, White, and Miss Donaldson, who kindly volunteered to carry out the decorations, alstf to Messrs Oliver and Carman, who acted as M.C.'s.
