Sir Charles Lucas, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, who, with Mr Pearson, lately toured the oversea dominions on a special mission, speaking at the Working Men's College, declared that Australia had. a great future before it Its 'growth would be immensely promoted by railways between West and South Australia. The Canadian Pacific railroad, said Sir Charles, had made a people. It illustrated the immense importance of railways. Science had done more than laws to promote democracies.
