A NOISY MEETING.

PICKPOCKETS REAP A HARVEST. (Received November 17, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, 16th November. Mr. Alexander Ure, Solicitor-General for Scotland, addressed a meeting at Watford, Herts, amid many interruptions, many persons being ejected. Mr. Ure was unable to speak for half an hour. London pickpockets in large numbers, expecting disorder, secured a harvest of watches and money. The police arrested fourteen persons. In' a recent speech Mr. Ure declared that no tariff reformer had yet shown how revenue was to be raised to pay oldage pensions, and the alarm felt by poor folks lest a change of Government might cause the loss of pensions was well founded. The Daily Mail protested that this is a discreditable falsehood, and asserts that it was circulated by the Minister after Mr. Balfour's letter of loth September disclaiming any such intention. Mr. Ure was taken to task on the subject in the House by the Leader of the Opposition.
