CONFERENCE MARKING TIME.

MR. BOWLING'S SCHEME. SYDNEY, 16th November. The strike conference sat again today, bub the delegates came to no decision, marking time till the Government's attitude was announced. The conference discussed Mr. Bowling's proposal to take over and work certain mines, and appointed a committee to interview the owners of the suggegtec l mines and report) to :o l ference. Mr. Bowling's aoheme for the raising of £6000 per ■week for the support of the men on strike is still the subject of much speculation (says the Sydney Telegraph). The most popular solution of the mystery is that ' he has entered, or proposes to enter, into an agreement with a colliery proprietary outside the vend to work one or two mines by means of the strikers, and sell the coal at the high prices now ruling. If the proprietary were able to command some shipping tonnage, so much the more eas?y 'would the scheme be to work. There arc a fen small collieries outside the vend, and it "is thought to be quite possible that if a couple of thepc wero secured, homething like 1000 tons of coal per day could be put out by working three shifts. At £2 or £3 per ton, that would yield a very handsome profit. It is believed there would be no difficulty in selling the coal. The market position of shares in and outside the coal company during the past fp\v days might be worth studying in this connection.
