The values of the principal exports from the port of Wellington, as prepared by the Customs for the month of October, compared with those of the corresponding month of last year, are as follow :—: — 1909. 1903. £ £ Butter "... 26,862 16,262 Cheese 10,468 5,287 Frozen beef 5,827 3,625 Frozen mutton ... 15,979 23,670 Legs and pieces mutton 5,326 6,842 Frozen lamb 1,631 1,473 Flax 17,430 18,244 Poultry — 5 Tow 782 756 Grain and pulse ... 10 — Hides 3,989 9,701 Skins 14,395 8,721 Tallow 12,652 17,241 Timber ..." . 857 — Wool 8,539 19,017 It will be seen that there are very substantial increases in the values of butter and cheese exports, also in the value of skins; the shrinkages of me-it are due to the fact that the recent low prices for that &ta.ple have checked the shipments. • The monthly period is too short to be of value in estimating the exporting position of wool.
