EDUCATION BOARD.

The Wellington Education Board concluded its business after Tli9 Post went to press yesterday. Mr. Robert Leo (chairman) presided, and Messrs A. H. Vile, W. H. Field, M.P., A. W. Hogg, M.P., H. Elder, and J. Kebbell were also present. The following teachers were granted leave of absence : — Miss J. Davidson, Roseneath (three months from Ist February, 1910) ; Miss C. Tuely, Ballance (one month from Ist February, 1910) ; Miss Scott, Carterton (to end of October) ; Miss M. Morrison, Levin (two days) ; Mr. G. Flux, South Wellington (two months) ; Miss Goldsmith, Levin (four weeks) ; Miss Oliver, Gladstone (extended leave) ; Mies Carter, Brooklyn (extended leave, one month). Leave to attend examinations was granted to : Mr. E. Eagar, Johnsonville ; Miss A. M. Marten, Newtown ; Miss O. Eagar, Newtown; Miss F. Edmonds, Mount Cook Girls' ; Miss Caverhill, Hutt ; Miss Speedy, Hutt ; Miss Stevens, Hutt; Miss E. Montgomery, Kilbirnie; and Mr. Caigou, Hutt (all from 30th November). Leave was also granted to : Mr. It. B. Hill, Admiral Run (one week from Bth November); Mr Nightingale, Kopuaranga (fortnight from Bth November) ; Mr R. Foss, Femridge (17th-19th November) ; Mr. Melody, Te Aro • Mr Grant Brooklyn ; Mr. Taylor, Kilbirnie (12th and 16th November) ; Miss Chapman, Mangahao (Bth-9th November). Sections 1 to 13 on the Wilford Settlement have been made available for a school site. The board received word that in 1910 the free book grant will be extended to Standard 3. At the request of the Mangatiti Committee it was decided to agree to the changing of tha name of the district to Puketoi. «7 A Tv motion of l l lanks w aa accorded Mr. W. Aorrell, Pahiatua, on his resignation from the board of managers of the Technical School there. A communication from the Teachers' Institute concerning the use of a meeting room in the board building was leit in the hand's of the chairman and secretary. Application is to be made to the Education Department for the funds for the erection of a new school at Hinemoa. A subsidy up to £4 10s for the miniature rifle range at Northland was approved, as were al^o applications for approval of projected ranges at Te Aro and Olaki.
