A FIRE.
[bt telegraph— ritEss association.] DUNEDIN, 28th October, i The Brighton Hotel, at Brighton Beach, about twelve miles from Dunedin, was totally destroyed by fire at 8.30 o'clock this evening. It was an old wooden building, containing fourteen rooms. The fire was supposed to have been started by a lighted candle setting fire to the curtains of a bedroom upstairs. The upper portion of the building was almost enveloped in flames befoie the occupiers were aware of the outbreak. The building and portion of the contents were owned by Messrs. Lane and Co., cordial manufacturers, Dunedin, and the licensee (Mr. Charles Cattanach) owned a portion of the furniture. It is understood that the owners are insured, but the amount is not available. The licensee, who saved some of the furniture, had no insurance on his portion of the contents.
