BREACH IN EAST HERTFORDSHIRE.

A COMPACT. (Received October 19, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, 18th October. Mr. Abel Smith, M.P., and his Tariff Reform opponent, have agreed not to contest the East Hertfordshire seat, in order to heal the breach in the constituency. A new Tariff Reform candidate will be found for the general election. Mr. Abel H. Smith (Conservative) has sat for East Herts since 1900. At the election in 1906 he polled 4836 votes, his opponent, Mr. C. R. Buxton (Liberal) securing 4081.
