DR. COOK'S OFFER.
THE MOUNT M'KINLEY EXPEDITION. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. NEW YORK, 18th October. Dr. F. A. Cook has offered £300 to finance an expedition to recover his records left at Mount M'Kinley, Alaska, to refute the charge made by Mr. Burrills that he had never been within fourteen miles of the mountain. He requests that Mr,. Anthony Fisla, Arctic explorer, should lead the expedition. Dr. Cook will accompany him. COOK WILL ESTABLISH HIS CLAIM. LECTURING TOUR TO BE CANCELLED. (Received October 19, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 18th October. The Times's New York correspondent states that Dr. Cook, yielding to public demand, will terminate a lucrative lecturing tour and establish his Polar claim. He has promised to cancel his Dr. Cook claims to Lave reached the top of Mount M'Kinley — the highest (20,000 feet) mountain in America — in 1903-06. In his book "To the Top of the Continent," Dr. Cook gives a picturesque account of his movements. He tells of break-down after break-down, and then relates that "Just below the summit we dropped over an icy shelf on the verge of collapse. After a iow moments we gathered breath and courage, and then for the last stage the lifeline tightened with a nervous pull. We edged up along a steep snowy ridge, and over the heaven-scraped granite to the top. At last! The soul-stirring task was crowned with victory ; the top of the continent was under our feet."
