! ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Yesterday afternoon, after The Pest ■went to press, an interesting discussion on "The Work of God in the Churches" took place at the Baptist Union Conference. On resumption this morning, it wa3 unanimously resolved that the next conference should be held at Dunedin. The following were elected personal members of the union : — Messrs. W. Nieve (Wellington), W. Blick (Nelson), A. M'Hutcheon (Caversham), W. Edish and Captain Cummings (Gisborne). The annual election or executive officers of the union for the ensuing year resulted as follows : — President, Rev. W . Hay (Dunedin) ; vice-president, Mr. A. Chidgey (Christchnrch) ; secretary, Mr. R. S. Gray (Christchurch) ; treasuier, Mr. A. F. Carey ; union preacher, Rev J. K. Archer (Napier) ; deputy, Rev. S. Jenkins (Nelson). Annuity Fund — Secretary, .Rev. 11. M. Smeeton (Auckland); treasurer, Mr. W. :!., George (Wellington) ; committee, Messrs A. S. Adams, T. E. Toneycliffe, W. Spedding, W. H. Lamb, A. ' F. Carey ; recorder and registrar, < Rev. W. R. I Wooliey (Auckland) ; financial secre- | tary, Rev. Charles Boyall (Caversham) ; Sunday School and Young People's Committee, last year's re-elected. Board of advice and introduction — Convener, Rev. A. North (Ponsonby). On the motion of Air. >H. H. Driver (Dunedin), it was resolved — "That thi? conference expresses its profound pleasure at the formation of the Young Wen's and Young Women's Bible Class Unions, and hopes for their rapid growth and exceeding usefulness." It was suggested that the Biblb JSlass Unions should be represented at the next assembly. The conference passed resolutions of thanks to the editor of the New Zealand Baptist (Mr. H. H. Driver), to the Wellington Ministers' Association, and the many friends in Wellington who had extended their hospitality. Especially does this refer to ministers of the churches, and the members of the churches' committees. The following were elected to tho Executive Committee : Revs. A. North (Ponsonby), J. J. North (Wellington), R. H. K. Kempton (Auckland), A. Dewdney (Brooklyn), A. S. Wilson (Wanganui), C. Dallaston (Mornington), F. G. Buckingham (Oamaru), E. A. Kirwood (Auckland), J. R. Archer (Napier), and Messrs. A. S. Adams (Dunedin), H. M. Smeeton (Auckland), H. H. Driver (Dunedin), W. H. George (Wellington), G. Carson (Wanganui), A. Hohy (Wellington), C. To-morrow is regarded as the great day of the Baptist Union, when the Foreign Mission affairs will be considered. In the afternoon a public "At Home" will be held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. Addresses will be given by the Rev. W. H. Hinton (Thames), J. Takle, and E. A. Kirwood. At 7.30 a public meeting will be held in the church. For a quarter of an hour a series of views of the work will be shown, and subsequently addresses will be given by Miss Gainsford and Rev. J. Takle, missionaries from India, and Mr. W. H. George, who has just visited the mission stations. The combined choir will render selections of music. A wedding, in which considerabl" interest was manifested, took place at the Jewish Synagogue, on Wellingtonterrace, this afternoon, when Mr. Jos. Hyams, of Melbourne, was married to Miss Dolly Mandel, eldest daughter of Jlr. and Mis. Jo&eph Mandel, of Wellington. The ceremony was performed by the Jewish Pvabbi, Rev. H. Van Staveren, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Pitowski. The bridesmaids were Misses E. and R. Mandel (sisters of the bride), Caselbcrg (2),' of Masterton, Hyams, of Melbourne (sister of the bridegroom), and Lyons, cf Christchurch. Mr. \V. Rosenberg, of Wellington, was best man, and Mess-rs M. Caselberg (Masterton), A. Myers, G. Nathan, L. Hyams, and E. Rosenberg were groomsmen. A reception was aiterwards held at the residence of the bri-Je"s parents, on Tinakori-ro.-ul. ■ Thia evening, under tho auspices of tho Spiritualistic Band of Helpers, Mr. J. M. Morey will deliver clairvoyant and psyclioraecial readings in the Wellington Hall, Bouleott-strrct.
