SOME REPUTATIONS SUFFER. SATURDAY'S RIFLE SHOOTING RESULTS. Bleak weather was experienced on I Trentham range last Saturday afternoon, the. wind had spiral tendenoies, and altogether there were shooting conditions that wore voted exceedingly bad by the ..large majority of the marksmen. Firing took place at 500 and 600 yards on the Sonimerville range, the results ranging from; a possible of misses up to a compaijatively modest 59, put on by Lieut. Bolton, of the Post and Telegraph Rifles. Coming after the phenomenal scores of the two Saturdays immediately preceding, th,e leaned totals are tho more noticeable, b^ut it should be explained that the weather on the previous occasions was as near perfection as Trentham can ' allow of- The parade state, notwithstanding the inolement weather, showed the satisfactory total of 341. It was made up of 9 staff, 20 D Battery, 16 Engineers,' 33 City Rifles, 33 Guards, 8 Ivalburne, 31 Civil Service, 35 Post and Xeiegraph, 17 College, 26 Zealandia, 22 Highlanders, 24 Hutt Valley, 30 Karori, 13 , Dominion Scouts, 16 Victoria College, anjl 8 Permanent Forces. The range offijcear for the day was Captain J. Duthie, and the trenches were in charge of Staff Sergt -Major . Rose. Slightly better weaihpr conditions were experienced on -the -Collins -range, but the scores wera Door on that range also. It is noteworthy that some of the highest scoring was :made by a club that was going through the rapid-firing stages of the Government ojas^-firjng oourse. 1 . .D BATTERY. The company belt and other trophies were fired for, each competitor being given ten shots at 500 yards and ten at 600 yards.
