AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
* MEETING OF THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. , At a meeting of the Wellington centre of the New ( Zealand Amateur Athlefcio Association, held on Friday night, there were present — Mr. J. H. Pollock (chairman), Messrs. Dawson, Salek, Bust, Thomson, Travers, Loydon, Short, Crewes, and Guise (secretary)." The Marathon Race to be held on the 9th November will start from the Basin Reserve out to the Hutt and back to the Reserve. The necessary permission has been received from the various Borough Councils. The prizes would be the maximum allowed by the rules of the N.Z.A.A.A., viz. : First £10, second. £5, and third £2 10s ; and for sealed handicap prizes to the value of £5, £3, and £1 were being allotted. Permission was granted the Rangitikei Public Schools' Sports Committee to place amateur events on its programme of sports to be held at Marton, on 9th November next. The Wellington Boys' Institute wrote regarding the formation of a Public Schools' Athletic League, and asking the centre to favourably consider the movement. It was resolved that this was a matter which could be better controlled by the clubs, and, the secretary was instructed to -communicatie with the affiliated clubs with a view to establishing juvenile branches in connection with such clubs. Notification was received from the N.Z.A.A.A. that the Hutt Valley A.A. Club had become defunct. It was decided that the centre should take steps to revive amateur athletics in the Hutt Valley. The Civil Service Club was granted permission to hold 0. sports meeting on 29th January, 1910. It was suggested to the Auckland Centre that as early in February as possible was the mo6fc suitable date to hold the New Zealand championships. The Victoria College Club notified the ■appointment of Mr. L. Short as delegate for the incoming season; Catholic Club, Messrs. J. J. Callaghan, and B. Leydon; and Civil Service Club, Mr. A. E. Dawson, and R. E. Bust. The Wellington A.A. Club intimated that it had decided to hold a spring meeting on the Basin Reserve on 9th November next. Letters were received from the Town Clerk as follows : — (1) Granting permission to run a MaTathon Race through the city, Bubject to the control of the police; {2) asking approximate dates on which the centre or affiliated clubs wished to hold sports meetings on. the Basin Reserve. It was resolved: "That the secretary write to affiliated clubs asking approximate dates on which they intend to hold meetings, and that when this information is in the hands of the secretory, a committee consisting of Messrs. Pollock, Dawson, and the secretary approach the Reserves Committee of the City Council re the allocation of dates of the Basin Reserve for Saturday afternoon meetings.
