PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY.

TWO DRAWN GAMES. Two more games in the Public Service football tournament, under Rugby rules, were played at Miramar/ on Saturday, but no advancement of the tourney resulted. Very ' keen struggles were witnessed "m each case. The Railways Department's team played a hard/ fast game against the Education Department, but at the call of "no-side" it was found that while the Eailwaya had rit> points the Education Department's syllabus contained no such word as failure, so a drawn game resulted. On one occasion M'lnerney broke loose on the Railway track, and the hopes of the linemen were high, but an education inspector named Dunn succeeded in an "effort to shunt him into a siding known as "Touch," just as trydom seemed imminent. The second heat was between representatives of the Lands and Survey Department and a fifteen from the Land and Income Tax Department. At halftime there had been no score, and at "no-side" the record was three all. As both sides had a try to credit, the result was as near evenness as could be. The Tax men's score was got by Fawcett, after combined work between himself and Paul. Their side was assisted by Clark, late of Ponsonby's seniors, but though he flew like a swallow on occasions, he failed to make a summer. In fact, the game was all but lost, for M'Kenzie's kick at goal for Lands and Survey, from a try got by' Owen Campbell, actually hit the bar, though it failed to cross it. f A scratch, game was played between Customs and Public Works, respectively. Butler and Butcher scored a try each fo.r Customs, who won the match by 6 points to 3. Elliott scored a try for Public .Works. MISCELLANEOUS. At Miramar, Kirkcaldie and Sons' team beat the representatives of Sar■good, Son «nd Ewen by 7to nil. Daly potted a goal, and M'Kenzie scored a try. Cable and Co. 's team beat a team from Luke and Co.'s foundry by 17 points to nil. W. and J. Staples's team defeated Hannah and Co.'s fifteen, by 38 points to nil. In a friendly match at Petone, Gear Company defeated M'Ewan and. Carter's team by 11 points to 10. Trinity (Newtown). and Wesley (Tara-naki-stree-t), met at Newtown Park, and a strenuous and well-fought gaiuo resulted. Trinity had the best of the, first spell, which ended 8 to nil in their favour. Crewes and Foster scored tries, thf> former converting one . with a fine kick. The second spell was most exciting, and Wesley strove hard to even matters up. Jacobson and 'Reed scored tries for them, one of which was converted by S. Wilson., Thus the game ended in a draw. Mr. D. Chant refereed. ■In a fast forward game, the iNew Zealand Express Co.'s team beat the Wellington Harbour Board's team by eight points to nil. Ball got a try, which 'Houlihan converted. Houlihan" also kicked a, penalty goal. Mr. Daly was Teferee. At 'Petone, St. Augustine's (Petone) met St. Matthew's (Wellington), and the game resulted in a win for St. Augustine's by 11 points to' 9. ■ A. Levy's fifteen defeated the Wellington Woollen Company's representatives by 14 points to 3. For the winners tries were scored by V. Bernard, B. Calciuai, J. Mahoney, and B. Levy. For the losers, Healy scored a try. The teams were subsequently entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Levy at their residence, Willis-street. WAIRARAPA V. A Rugby match between Wanganui and Taranaki Maori representatives was played at 'Wanganui on Saturday afternoon, the visitors winning by 20 points to 0. WELLINGTON JUNIORS DEFEATED. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON, 11th September. The match between the Wellington and Wairarapa juniors was played this afternoon under pleasant conditions, and in the presence of a large crowd of spectators. The first spell was in favour of the visitors by 3 to 0, but the Wairarapa men got in some good play later on, and won a keenly fought game by 11 points to 9. MARLBOROUGH v. NELSON. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, 11th September. The junior interprovincial match Marlborough v. Nelson, was played today in fine weather, and was won. by the former team by j-4 points to 6. The winning points "were made up of four tries, one converted. Nelson scored a try and a penalty goal.
