SIRES OF THE SEASON.

Sylvia Park,

In this issue Mr. D. J. Goodwin, of Hawera, announces that the St. Leger horse Sylvia Park will do stud duty in the district named during the coming season. Most of St. Leger's sons were great performers and have been stud successes. By St. Leger — Atalanta, Sylvia Park is full brother to Regal (sire of Regalia, Regulus, and other winners) and Hippomenes, a good performer in Messrs. Stephenson and Hazlitt's colours. With such limited opportunities no horse has done better than, even as well, as Sylvia Park. His best advertisement was Volume, winner of the New Zealand St. Loger Stakes and other important events. His progeny have been consistent stake-earners since he first took up stud duty and during the past five seasons have won over £12,000 in stakes. One of his best handicap horses was Kaharoa^ winner of the Wanganui Stakes. This season his daughter Dolce has won three times out of four starts. Eclogue, Tiptoe, Maharanui, 'Goodwin "Park, and many other winners in the Taranaki district were sired by him. He is a member of .the No. 2 family to which bel6ng Carbine, Hotchkiss (sire of Multifoim), and other noted performers.

Glengowrie,

Glengowrie (full-brother to the wellperformed Las>s o' Gowrie) is one of the biggest and best-looking of the Soult tribe. During his stay at Fordell Glengowrie showed F., Tilley some of the best gallops ever put up on the track) Unfortunately he could not be thoroughly wound up, and Mr. Andrew tame decided to give breeders in the Wooaville district the benefit of the horse's services during tho coming season. His dam, Lady Musket, is by Blairgowrie^ — Muskerina by Musket — Yatterina, from whom most of the great performers bred at the Papakura stud descend. Hardly a meeting of any importance in the Dominion is held without some flf the progeny of the successful sife Soult appear among the winners. One of his sons, Aimwell, scored at Marton ; and two others, Marengo and Lord Soult, at Horowhenua. The performances of Lass o' Gowrie, when she carried Mr. Laing's colours, made hereout to be first-class. Her victories included the Pearce Handicap. Two of the first of the sons of Soult to take up stud duty are Wairiki and Maniapoto. The stock sired by both horses is highly spoken of.
