CONQUERING THE NORTH POLE. TWO EXPEDITIONS — TWO REPORTED VICTORIES. PEARY'S ACHIEVEMENT. ANOTHER DRAMATIC SURPRISE. By Telegraph.— Press Association .-Copyright,. LONDON, 7th September. Reuter's Agency has received a telegram from Commander R. E. Peary, who sailed on 17th July, 1908, from Sydney, Cape Breton, in the steamer Roosevelt, on his latest expedition in search oi the Korth Poie, as follows: "INDIAN HARBOUR, LABRADOR. " NAILED STARS AND STRIPES TO NOKTH POLE." Advices from St. John's, Newfoundland, state that the Governor of that colony has received a similar telegram, containing also Commander Peary's congratulations ou the fact that the captain and crew of his steamer were Newfoundlanders. Mr. Herbert Lawrence Bridgman, of New York, secretary of the Arctic Club of America, has received a message in Peary's code slating that the Pole had been reached, and that his steamer, the Roosevelt, nas safe.
