MATCH AGAINST AN ALL ENGLAND TEAM. RAIN AGAIN DELAYS PLAY. By Telegraph.— Press Aaßoelation.— Copyright (Received September 8, 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, 7th September. The match of the Australian cricketers against an All England team selected by Mr. Bamford began to-day at Uttoxeter, in Staffordshire. Owing to rain, play was not started till 3.20 p.m. The wicket was soft and dead, and the cricket slow. There was a small attendance. Following were tha teams: — Australia. — Carkeek, M'Alister, Trumper, Noble, Gregory, Armstrong, Bardsley, Macartney, O'Connor, Whitty, and Hopkins. All England. — Jones, MacLaren, V. Crawford, Buckenham, Barnes, Blythe, Hayes, Iremonger, Lilley, G. Gunn, and Tarrant. Jones won the toss, and sent the home team to the wickets. The first wickefc fell for 20, Tarrant being caught by Macartney off Whitty, Iromonger and Hayes carried the total to 37, when M'Alister caught Hayes at long-on. After the half-century was up rain caused a delay of twenty-five minutes. Gunn, who ■tfas nearly stumped off Hopkins when he had made 8, got his leg before three runs later. Three for 57. Crawford and Iremonger brought 73 on the ooard before the latter was smartly caught at long-on by M'Alister. The wickets fell quickly. MacLaren succumbed to the first ball he received, and Jones played O'Connor on, the South Australian securing three wickets in one over. The fourth and fifth wickets fell at 73, the sixth at 79, and the eighth at 81. When stumps were drawn the score stood at 98 for eight wickets. Scores : — ENGLAND.— First Innings. RHODES REACHES THE TWO THOUSAND MARK. (Eeceived September 8, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 7th September. Following is the bowling analysis in the match of the Australian cricketers against Middlesex, which was stopped by rain a fortnight ago : — Cotter, no wickets for 83 runs; Whitty, none for 76; Armstrong, one for 26; Hopkins, three for 75; Ransford, one for 15; Noble, none for 18. Rhodes has completed 2000 runs this season. In the Middlesex match, the county made 307 runs for five wickets, and play then had to be stopped owing to rain.
