The report stated that the president had made a tour of the unions in 1907, and the results were dealt with in an exhaustive ' review. Organisation was .the keynote to success. It was a matter for- regret that no definite organisation had as yet been reported in connection with the formation of the Otago Provincial C.E. Union. - The Quarter Century Memorial Fund contribution of £11 13s 6d in 1907 had- now been supplemented by a further sum of £11 lls >9d, making the total £23 5s 3d. The statistics of the district unions were given as follows:—Wellington, 1962 members; Dunodin, 1377; Canterbury, 1341; Auckland, 1284; Manawaj-u, 608; ,Otago, 382; Gore, 295; West Coast, 164; Southland, 154; Clutiia, 105; total 7672. The senior societies had increased from 166 to 258 since the last census, the intermediate still remained at 9, and the junior societies had decreased i from 83 to 82. At the last convention 3397 were returned as being in the senior division. This year there was only 2908, a decrease of 12 per cent. This was a serious matter, calling for a careful investigation as to the remedy. The total membership roll of the Dominion had fallen since 1907 from 7864 to 7672. The financial contributions had averaged 103 7d per capita. Altogether £1161 4s l^d had been contributed in two years, the district return being as follows: — Auckland, £409 lls B£d ; Wellington, £267 lls sd; Dunedin, £174 3s OAd; Canterbury, £165 10s 3£d; Gore, £65 19s ll<i; Otago North, £38 13s Id: West Coast, £22 18b 9d; Clutha, £16 15s lid. Consideration of the report was deferred until to-day's sitting of the conncil, which began at L3O p.m.
