STARTLING EXPERIENCE. BURGLAR IN AN HOTEL.
CHEI'STCHURCH, 7th September. The guests' in Warner's Hotel had a rather startling experience this morning at an early hour. An enterprising Burglar, who ascended by means of the fire-escape, visited several rooms, and levied toll on the valuables the sleepers. In one room, however, the intended victim was awakened by the entrance of the burglar, and tackled him. A rough-and-tumble ensued, the guest calling lustily for help. The night porter, the manager of the hotel, and some others were quickly on the spot, and the police were telephoned for. On their spdedy arrival the burglar-visitor was handed over, and subseqnently, on pleading guilty to-day, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. He had made a fairly good collection from the rooms visited by him.
