LODGE MEETINGS.
The weekly session of the Pioneer Lodge of Good Templars was held in the liechabite Hall, Manners-street, on Monday evening. Bro. W. Smith, P.C.T., presided, in the absence of Bro. Coulter, C.T. Several visitors were present; they brought greetings from various lodges. Bro. Lucas gave a creditable essay on the "Foundation of Good Templary," which stated that the Order naa been working since 1851, if not earlier An interesting discussion followed. One member applied for a clearance-card, which was granted A hearty vote of thanks to visitors and members war carried by acclamation. Court Sir William ocrvoih hem its fortnightly meeting in St. Thomas's School, Pdddi ford-street, last night. The district officers made their official visit, and gave the members an interesting report on the progress ot the Wellington district for the past year. The secretary stated that next Court night would be quarter night 'for election ot delegates to the district meeting at Piclon. The fortnightly meeting of the Melrose Lodge, No. 66, U.A.0.D., was neld in O'DonnelFs Hail, Kilbirnie, last evening, A.D. Avo. Clark presiding over a fair attendance >>f members. One new member was initiated. A vote of thanKb was accorded the visitors — D.P. Bro Crombie, Pacific Lodge ; P.D.P riro. Oliver, Lodge 132, New South Wales; and P.D.P. Bro. Lawtun, Coronation Lodge. It is proposed to pay an official visit to the Coronation ljodge, Newtown, on Tuesday .evening next. Mr. Alex. Downie, who died at Chertsey this week, was well known amongst cyclists in Christchurch, Timaru, Temuka, Ashburton, and the surrounding districts. He competed in the Dunlop road race, Timaru to Christchurch, in 1906, and won a Dunlop gold modal for completing the distance under seven Hours, hit tinre being 6 hours 15 minutes 25 seconds.
