UNFOUNDED REPORTS. CHANGES" OF GOVERNORSHIPS.
DENIAL BY PARTIES INTERESTED. By Tolegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 6th September. The Australian Star to-day publishes a statement, on what it alleges is "excellent authority," ' announcing that the Earl of Dudley will shortly retire from the post of Governor-General of the Commonwealth, and will succeed the Earl of Minto as Viceroy of India. The Star states, further, that Lord Plunket, who is about to retire from the Governorship of New Zealand, will succeed Lord Dudley. Enquiries at Government House to night elicited the information that there is no foundation for the reported early retirement of Lord Dudley from the Governor-Generalship. AUCKLAND, 6th September. On making an enquiry at Government House this evening, a Herald representative was informed that his Excellency the Governor knew nothing of the rumour as cabled from Sydney, to the effect that he would succeed Lord Dudley as Governor-General of Australia. Lord Plunket's term as Governor of New Zealand will expire on 20th June of next year.
