NEW CALEDONIA. SERIOUS DISCONTENT.
OWING TO STOPPAGE OF PUBLIC WORKS. By Telegraph.— Press Association. -Copyright SYDNEY, This Day. There is strong agitation in Noumea against the action of the French Home Government in stopping 'public works already vindertaken. At a mass meeting of citizens it was decided, after some fiery speeches, to request the Governor to use his influence with the French Government to quell the discontent, which, if allowed to grow, might reach serious proportions. The Governor has sent a cable message to Paris, and is awaiting a reply.
