A young man appeared at the Magistrate's Court yesterday as the debtor in a 'claim on a judgmeut summons for the balance of the purchase money for a lady's bkycle. It was stated that defondant made the purchase of ythe machine when he was only sixteen years of age. He paid the first instalment, and undertook the legal responsibility of the purchase. Subsequently, the payments were continued by the lady, and when they ceased, the vendors proceeded against the boy for the balance of the money. The debtor said he had no idea as to the whereabouts of the lady for whom he bought the machine. The magistrate, Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M., declined to make an order against the debtor in respect of a debt contracted •wh»ii he was only sixteen years of age.
