The following telegram was posted on Friday at the Auckland Exchange : — "The tributers wire 138 and 109oz specimens, deposited in bank." The Star states that it is just possible it may mean 138 tons were crushed for 109oz of bullion, and that specimens had been deposited in the bank. WAIHI DEVELOPMENT. The Star's Waihi correspondent understands that a' new lode has been discovered between Waihi and Karangahake by a prospector, but he declines to give particulars further than stating that _ the lode is heavily mineralised^ and is situated ill good country. A syndicate is being formed to acquire a claim at Owharoa, near Waikino, to be known as the Waikino Special Quartz Claim. It consists of 22 acres, and is a portion of the old Ohinemuri Syndicate ground, and is close to the Rising Sun and Connecticut claims. The prospectors report that they have struck payable" ore. The syndicate will have the benefit of a large three compartment shaft, sunk by the Old English Company, on the Owharoa ground, and it is the syndicate's intention to put a tunnel towards the northern boundary, under a point where a large amount of gold was obtained in the early days. NEW WAITAIA. The following report is taken from the Star : — Stoping has been started north and south of the rise above the intermediate level. The reef is fifteen inches wide at the north" side, and six inches at south side. Gold is showing freely in north slope. In the rise above No. 15 level eight or nine feet is stripped, and will be taken down at latter part of the week, to cave staging. The flinty country met with in the south drive has crossed the face at a long angle, and is now nearly out on the opposite side. The reef looks better than it has done since starting to drive, and promises to be a fair body of stone at next breaking-down. WAIHI BEACH. According to the Star the water is now lowered sufficiently to enable the manager to sets, the dam that was built across the level a couple of years ago to keep back the water. The directors have acquired the claim lately owned by the Waihi Discovery, which contains 100 acres.
