ESSEX MATCH DRAWN. PLAY ABANDONED OWING TO RAIN. By Telegraph.— Press Association.—Copyright. . LONDON, 4th September. The cricket match Australia v. Essex was abandoned owing to rain to-day, the home team in their second innings scoring 57 for one wicket. Play did not start to-day until 3.45 p.m. The wicket was soft. When the score had been run up to 57 rain again set in, and play was abandoned, the match thus ending in a draw. Following were the scores :—: — AUSTRALIA. First Innings 278 ESSEX. First Innings £63" Second Innings. Fane, b O'Connor q Douglas, not out " **" 15 Turner, not out ... • [ *" 32 Extras *" Total for one wicket 57 Bowling analysis.—Cotter took no wickets for 3 runs, and O'Connor one for 16.
