GETTING READY. TTE NEW YEAR BOWLING TOURNEY.

MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE. The first annual meeting of the reconstituted Wellington Bowling Centre was held last night, there being an attendance of eighteen delegates. The accredited delegates were Messrs. Hueston and Kitto (Victoria Club), Prince and Scott (Newtown), Dickerson and Newcombe (Karori), Stephens and Melhuish (Petone), Knowles and Webb (Kelburne), Leighton and King (Thorndon), Trevithick and Rickworth (Hutt), Bush and Churchward '(Wellington). An _ apology for non-attendance was received from Mr. J. T. King, who was the chairman of last year's meeting. Mr. T. Bush, who was in the chair, mentioned that he took his appointment that evening to be only a temporary one. The report and balance-sheet (already summarised in The Post) was read and adopted. Un the motion of Mr. Churchward, seconded by Mr. Kitto, the Hiwi Club (Island Bay) was elected to membership. The delegates are to be Messrs. Wilson and E. J. Hill. An intimation was made that there were about fifty members in the club. Mr. W. J. Hueston was unanimously elected chairman of the centre. In returning thanks, he said there was no doubt the centre had " come to stay," and was going to do very good work. He was anticipating with pleasure tho New Year tournament, and he hoped that members would, work in the spirit of good fellowship and general amity that had made the last two tournaments | so enjoyable and successful. J "Mr. T. L. Churchward was unanimously re-elected secretary and treasurer. Referring to a tentative suggestion that had been made for the. separating of the offices of secretary and treasurer, Mr. Churchward said that as a general thing sueh 1 a step might be adviscable, but the principle of "smallest expenses" upon which the centre was run almost ensured that the moneys were spent before they were received, and so the duties of the treasurer were made almost nominal. Messrs. Leighton, Dickerson, and Churchward were appointed the Postponement Committee. NEW YEAR TOURNEY. After a short discussion, it was resolved to hold tlie nest tourney on Saturday and Monday, Ist and 3rd Jaruary. A challenge trophy was received from Messrs. Flyger and Co., with an intimation that there should be inscribed on. it the names of last year's winninc" rink (Newtown). The gift was accepted, with thanks, and the shield was handed over to Mr. Prince, the skip, of the team. THE. PENNANT MATCHES. A discussion toqk place regarding the Gisborne trophy, and eventually it was decided that it was desirable to alter the conditions which require teams to comprise two junior and two senior players. The secretary was instructed to ask "Captain Edwin, local representa- 1 tive of the donor, to consent to the teams being altered to four senior players. "CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS." On the suggestion of Mr. Prince, it was resolved unanimously to institute a "champion of champions" contest, to consist of matches between the champion single players of each club, and to be played at the end of March. rlherlhe centre's certificate is to be given to the winner. Opinions were expressed that the institution of such a competition would greatly help the clubs in. getting through with the club competition.
