MINING NEWS.

Mr. T. Wearne, who has recently inspected the Wairau Valley Gold Mining Company's property on behalf of the directors, reports that the low level drive is now in a distance of 508 feet. The country is good shooting ground, and he anticipates an average of eight feet weekly should be maintained. There is no change in the country to report yet. TALISMAN. The following telegram has been received by the Wellington Stock Exchange from Talisman Consolidated, Ltd. : — Have despatched to London following cable : "A'o. 13 level driving north on branch vein ; progress 32ft ; width of reef, 30in ; values Tow." N.Z. CROWN MINES. Good progress is being made with the installations of the pumping plant in the N.Z. Crown Mines (states the Auckland Star). The work of unwatering has proceeded with the old pumping plant, and there seems reason to hope that about next October the lowest level (No. 5) will be reached. After that one of the large pumps will be installed. This, together with the electric motor, weighs about 40 tons. After a small pneumatic winding engine has been installed, and the big pumps get to work, a start will be made to sink on the rich chute of ore south of the main incline shaft. There is, therefore, some hope oH regular crushing being resumed towards the end of this year. Meanwhile the construction of the power plant is being completed.
