*. Under date 2nd August, Mr. G. Van Belle writes regarding the Wairau Valley Gold Mining Company's property : — "There has only been one shift in the face last week, my mate and I, fixing joints of pipes, and extending them 76 feet. Had to repair tip, which had sunk through the water coming down the gully washing it out, also cut out a recess in tho tunnel to 'keep explosives. All this work was urgently requisite, otherwise I would not have done it. The ground is much the same, changing every couple of feet. Measured up today, the result being 477 ft. 6in." •The following telegram from the manager of the May Queen mine was posted at the Slock Exchange on Saturday morning (says the New Zealand Herald) : — "Broke down portion of north-west lode. Good dabs of gold seen. Two pounds of picked stone secured." An Auckland paper states thav applications were received by the secretary of the Dominion Goldmining Company for 19,300 forfeited shares in the company, which were being offered to shareholders at 4d, as paid up to 6d. The lot were applied for, and will be issued according! v.
