HARBOUR BOARD.

The Harbour Board met this afternoon. Present — Messrs. T. M. WiKord (chairman), J. G. Harkness, F. G. Bolton, J. W. M'Ewan, M. Cohen, C. W. Jones, R. Fletcher, and C. E. Daniell. The financial statement showed credit balances of £34,566 10s lid on current account, and £758 5s lOd on imprest account. An amount of £70,000 was on fixed deposit. The items passed for payment comprised accounts, interest, and wages, £29,864 7s 9d ; progress payments on contracts, £1717 4s 3d ; salaries for July, £775 18s 2d : total, £32,357 10s 2d. It was agreed to accept tho tender of tho Te Aro Hou6e Drapery Co. for uniforms for the twelve months ending 30th June, 1910, and the tender of Messrs. d.-aries Hill and Sons, for uniform capa for the same period. Lack of employment and hard times generally were reflected in the Magistrate's Court to-d?iy by the extra number of judgment summons cases dealt with. Only one out of some half a dozen debtors was ordered to settle his little account. The others were either out of work or else had been retrenched. Mr. L. F. Ayson. Chief Inspector of Fisheries, returned to Wellington from Canterbury this morning. Two defended cases — Geo. Henry Morgan v. Donald Graham, and Oscar-George French v. the same defendant — claims for wages, the sums being £7 12s and £20 I7s 6d respectively, were taken together, and partially heard before Mr. W.. G. Riddell, S.M., to-day. Furrier hearing was then adjourned till Tuesday next. At a meeting held in the Newtown Primitive Methodist Church last evening a public welcome was extended k> the Rev. A. H. Fowles, who recently came from England to labour in this city. Brief addresses were given uy I the Revs. W. S. Eotter, H. Sharp, and. C. A. Sims, and the Hon. C. M. Luke, M.L.C. Mr. Fowles replied. During the evening Mr. H. H. Oxley explained a scheme of finance, which it. is hoped will do away with all special financial efforts by substituting a system of regular contributions. Musical it-ems were rendered by Messrs. Stabbs, Aitken, and Sando, Mrs. Stubbs being accompanist. "New Zealand: General Features of iteStructMre," will bo the subject of Dr. Ball's address to-night in the hall of the Training College. The evangelistic services at the Kentterrace Ppesbyterran Church will be continued to-night by Dr. Gtbb. Mr. W. P. Healy advertises a special auction sale of waterproofs, iimbrellae, etc, in his rooms, 95, Cuba-street, to-morrow evening, at 5 o'clock. j Messrs. T. Kennedy Macdonald, Ltd., insert an advertisement in anotker column i concerning a sale of building material, 500 ! sheets of iron, etc , which will titlo? place on the ground, Hannah's Building, next Masonic Hotel, Cuba-street, to-morrow, at U a.m. Thp sale will take place wet or fine, the auctioneers state, as the ground must be oleared immediately.
