PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. J. T. Hogan, M,P. for Wanganui, is on a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. Laing-Meason has booked a passage for Sydney by the Manuka to-mor-row. Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., has been reappointed a member of the Victoria College Council. .Mr. C. H. Jones, local manager for Messrs. Hnddart, Parker, and Company, returned from South by the Victoria this morning. Mr. J. J. Virgo, secretary of the Sydney Y.M.jC.A., intends visiting New Zealand in- September, and will attend the seventh annual celebration of the .Wellington V.M.C.A. Mr. John Coyie, formerly in the General Post Office, but more recently clerk of the Pohangina County Council, took up his duties as secretary to- the Wellington Hospital Trustees to-day. Mr. Jos. Thebaud, .manager of the lumber department of Hind, Rolph, and Co., Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregan, who has-been on a business visit to New Zealand, will leave for Sydney by the Manuka to-morrow. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who brought the drovers' dispute to a -successful issue, returned from Napier last night. Mr. Hally will sit again in Napier on the 28th instant, to deal with the carpenters' dispute. Deep regret is felt in Norwich (England) at the announcement that the Rev. John Callis feels his increasing years render it necessary to relieve himself of the pressing duties of the large pari&h of South Heigham, Norwich, w»ich he has held for 34 years. The rev. gentleman is the eldest brother of Mr. Charles" Callis, Wellington. The secretary of the V.M.C.A., Mr. H. N. Holmes, has received a letter from Mr. R. C. Morse, international secretary at New York, stating that Messrs. Cleveland and Bayard Dodge, two enthusiastic members of the association, are about to visit New Zealand, accompanied by their friend, Mr. Agpieton. The Messrs. Dodge are the sons of Mr. Cleveland H. Dodge, one of Americans prominent philanthropists, who gave the cite for the V.M.C.A. International building in New York.
