The majority of the town schools observed Arbor Day to-day, though indifferent weather interfered with the arrangements which had been made, and divested, the proceedings of the formality which might otherwise have been observed. At the larger schools the grounds had in previous years been plantwith the maximum of trees, consistent with safely and utility, but in some cases additions were made. There were no great assemblages of school children and school committeemen, but sufficient guarantees were given that the trees provided would h& planted and given their chance. In some of the schools the lessons of the previous day had dealt with Arbor Day, its meaning, and objects, and the pupils were given some theoretical instruction on how to plant trees. At the three schools appropriate ceremonies took place, while the Mayor and councillors and prominent citizens made a tour of several of the implanted streets, as the result of which forty trees were planted. FEILDING, This Day. A bright warm sun prevailed nearly the whole day, and then rain came on again, but tree-planting operations and beautifying work in the school grounds and public reserves in Feilding .and district had been completed bef oro the rain came. Arbor Day was a very useful institution for Feildin'g this year.
