ROYAL PICTURES.

Despite the rain, there was a large audience at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, when the usual weekly change of programme was submitted. The chief attraction this week is a picture-drama entitled "The Gambler." The story is that of a gambler who is practically ruined, and who is unable to tear himself away from tho fascinations of the gambling-table. Eventually, the wife, in an endeavour to raise funds, decides to sell up her home. The little money thus gained is, however, seized by the gambler, and the mother and child crushed at the last misfortune, resolve to die together, and with this purpose m view attempt to suffocate themselves by gas. At the "eleventh hour" the gambler returns, with pocket© full of notes and gold, and there is a happy ending. Another fine dramatic representation, with a touch of pathos, is the film entitled "Romance of Life." Other pictures of a similar nature are "The Village Fiddler" and "A Lost Sheep." An instructive film, and one calling for special mention is "Making Bamboo Hats on the Isle of Sunda." "Religious Fete in Russia" was good, and showed the imposing ceremony of the benediction of the waters at Moscow. Especially strong this week are the comics. First and foremost in this section, is an absurdly humorous chase picture entitled "Juggins's Motor Skates." Another good eccentric picture is a skit on the recent postal strike in Paris, and is under the heading of "A Makeshift Postiran." The remainder of the programme consists of "A Cold and Us Oonsoquences," 'Tame Animals at Work," and "A Would-be Champion." The list will be submitted again this evening, and the usual matinee is announced for Saturday afternoon.
