TRAMWAY TRAFFIC FOR JUNE. AN EXTRAORDINARY FALLING OFF.

A report by the city electrical engineer ('Mr. Stuart Richardson) on the tramways revenue and expenditure for the four weeks ended 25rd Jiine la^t, wae submitted to the Tramways Committee of tho City Council yesterday. It .stated that the traffic revenue showed a falling off of £268, as compared with the corresponding period of last year, the revenue taken on the cars running on the Island Bay ami Newtown loutes being £350 below last year. TJio revenue from the sale of current, however, shows an increase of £44 in this period, and receipts from other sources an increase of £15, making the gross revenue from all sources £211 less than, last year. The working expenses show an increaso of £160, as compared with last year. The renewal of trolley wire at the curves round the Basin Reserve increased the expenses in this period by £150. This expenditure has been charged to repairs and maintenance, but is really a correct charge against the depreciation fund account. Expenditure on renewals will, as time goes on, become gieater, and the question of charging renewals of plant or equipment against depreciation should be considered this year, as the depreciation account has not so far been debited, although considerable renewals have L-een made. The gross revenue to date amounts to £31,205, and the working expenses to £21,697. After allowing for proportion of interest, sinking fund and depreciation charges, blip net balance to date is £195, as compared with £875 last year.

To-morrow afternoon, at 4, Mr. Maughan BarneU, Uiu city crgptmit, will give & to-<-.ital on the Town Hull organ.
