A terrible accident, resulting in loss of life and serious injury, occurred during a balloon trio near here 'yesterday. The balloon, a military one named the Vannovsty, was afc a height of about a mile above the earth when ihe envelope was torn open by an accidental pull on the emergency valve, and the gas ot once began to escape. Immediately the balloon began to fall earthwards, and qukkly attained a frightful velocity. Of the four occupants of tljo ocr, -one, jW. Politzan, Court Chamberlain, was killed, and his wife was fatally injured. This was not the first fatal accident in which the balloon had been concerned, for on a foimer occasion a mishap to it resulted in the death of four officials.
