VANDALISM.
|Bx Trlxobaxh.— Smcial to Thk Pogx.t CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. /The Christchurch Beautifying Association, which has done much for tho improvement of the city, recently undertook to plant rows of plane trees on the footpaths of Moorhouse-avenue, the two-, chain street, one of the original Town Belts, on which the railway station stands. The trees have been imported from Melbourne, and, after planting them, the association enclosed them with substantial iron guards, the total cost per tree being about thirty shillings. The inevitable and inexplicable vandal has, however, given them his attention, and eleven trees have been destroyed.
