WEDNESDAY GAMES.

The Wednesday Rugby competitions were continued at the Athletic Park yesterday, when, despite the fact that admission was charged, the attendance was quite up to the average. So was the football. Tramway beat Oriental by 6 points to 3, while the Butchers went down before Stars. TRAMWAY (6) v. ORIENTAL (3). For the greater part of the game the losers had their opponents on the defensive. 'With spasmodic dashes the Tramway men raised the siege) and Perkinson, taking a penalty-kick, landed them a fine goal from a difficult angle. This was the only score in the first spell, though on several occasions the Orientals looked like crossing. So play continued, after the interval, Orientals attacking with much vigour but little skill. In another despairing dash the Tramway representatives made a sortie on the ' Oriental line. Here Perkinson, who swings an accurate boot, put his bide on good terms with him and itself by notching another excellent goal from a penalty. Finally the losers' persistence was rewarded when Schultz, after several gallant attempts, scored, Clark failing to convert. The end came with scores — Tramway 6, Oriental 3. Mr. M'Kenzie was referee. STARS (22) v. BUTCHERS (0). • The game resolved itself into a battle between speed and brawn, the Butchers being much heavier, and much slower than their opponents. In trying to follow the gait set up by the' lighter fifteen the Meat representatives found it was a case of "bellows to mend." In the first spell Luoni and Killeen made the scores. Stars 6, Butchers 0. The losers had very little to say in the last spell, while Killeen scored twice, converted a try by Brown and one of his own. Drury also crossed the line. Final scores — Stars 22, Butchers 0. Mr. W. S. Talbot refereed.
