LOSS OF A SCHOONER.
THR TUHARA. [BT TELEGRAPH. — I'UESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, 18th May. The auxiliary schooner, Tuhara, 97 tons, which was blown ashore while ;>t anchor at Kinikini, near Long Point, jSlahia Peninsula, is reported to oe practically a total wreck. Captain M'Nab remains near the scene of the casualty. The remainder of the crew arrived in Napier this evening. E. Goodall and A. Newman, A.B.s, eaid that owing to the heavy sea and strong wind the Tuhara anchored in the bight of Long Point on Saturday night. Early on Sunday morning one of the anchors carried away. The engines were kept going full speed ahead, but the vessel dragged her remaining anchor. This was lost at daybreak, and the vessel was driven broadside on to the rocks. She became fixed where she struck. The crew, who had put on lifebelts, managed to launch the lifeboat, and a line was taken ashore. The crew stood by the ship for a while, and then got their things, and went to Mr. George Ormond's station, where they were treated with great kindness. Goodall and Newman describe tte seai as of a mountainous character, and say the crew had a narrow escape. It was lucky for them they were driven ashore in daylight instead of during the night.
