At the usual meeting of the Society for the 'Prevention of Cruelty to .Anima-ls, held in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, there were present — Mr. Jameson (in the -chair), Meedames Christie, Kernot, and Williams, Miss Ludwig, and (Messrs. Richardson and Watson. Subscriptions to the amount of £7 16s 6d were acknowledged from the following : — Dalgety and Co. £1 Is, Mr. G. H. -Scales 10s 6d ; Mrs. Alec Forrest, Messrs. J. Nathan and Co., .Wai-dell 'Bros., A. MilHgan, and M'Tavish and Co., 10s each; Messrs. J. C. Webb, D. S. Thomson, A. N. Palmer, C. MAdam, J. 'Mackay, Caterer and Carey, W. H. Bartlett, T. H. Gill, M. Beck, S. Stidalph, and "Anonymous." 5s each; Messrs. C. dKaynes, A. Forrest, J. W. Copithorne, 'Mrs. J. J. Boyd, and two "Friends," 2s 6d each. Several cases of alleged cruelty to animals were reported as having been enquired into by the inspector.
