Archibald Andrew, a retired baker, aged fifty-four years of age, who lived with his "wife at Wingatui, met with a very serious accident on Saturday. He was engaged carpentering in his house, and in some inexplicable manner fell a distance of nine feet. His wife ran to him and found him. unconscious. The injured man was removed to a private hospital in town, where he lies in a very precarious condition, his spine being badly injured. OAMARU, 15th May. Thomas Cuff, aged 11 years, was accidentally killed by ar> explosion of acetylene gas to-day. He was playing ,with other boys in a tent occupied by Jones' Buckjumping Company, and strack a match to examine a tin containing dry carbide. An explosion followed, and the top of the tin was driven into the lad's head. Death was instantaneous. GISBORNE, This Day. A native named Joseph Swarm was found dead in a ditch near town on Sunday morning. He had been seen on horseback leaving town on Saturday evening, and was evidently thrown and killed. TAURANGA, This Day. Robert Russell, faimer, was found drowned in the Judea River on Saturday. At an inquest yesterday a verdict oi "found drowned" was returned. The deceased, who was 54 years of age, came from the Timaru district. TIMARU, This Day. At the inquett on Denis C°lh"ns, who was killed by a train on Friday evening, a verdict of Accidental Death was returned.
