IRONMASTERS' COMPLAINT. CONDITIONS OF TENDER.. {By Telegraph. — Special to The Post.] AUCKLAND, This Day. At the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, a letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Ironmasters' Association, drawing attention to the conditions of tenders as framed by some harbour boards in New Zealand. It was realised, he wrote, that in many cases the calling for tenders favoured English and foreign firms, to the detriment of New Zealand engineers. Instances had come to the knowledge of the association of harbour boards having accepted English and foreign tenders for the construction of harbour board cranes and jiggers, at a cost not below the tenders of New Zealand ironmasters, while at times the conditions of tenders were all against New Zealand tenders. Ihe association urged that more consideration should be given to New Zealand fiims in the future, in order that employment might be given- to skilled workers, and the money kept in New Zealand. At the present time New Zealand ironmasters were feeling very keenly the slackness of trade, and many capable engineers were out of employment. If . in the case of any special design for work being required, sufficient time were allowed, New Zealand ironmasters could obtain from their agents in Great Britain the necessary designs, etc. The letter vas referred to theboard in committee.
