The local office of the Union Company has received advice that the Moana left Sydney at 2 p.m. on Saturday with 33 saloon and 57 steerage passengers for Wellington. The vessel is due on Wednesday morning. THE KAIPARA'S MOVEMENTS. To-day the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Kaipara moved to the Glasgow Wharf for loading purposes, and she will probably leave to-morrow for Waitara. The vessel then proceeds to the Bluff, Port Chalmert, Ljttelton, and probably Timaru. Her ilnnl port has not yet been settled, but it will probably be Lyttelton. THE KIA ORA. To-night, it is expected, the Shaw-Savill steamer Kia Ora will leave Lyttelton for Wellington. The vessel will fill up and rebunker at this port, and the local agents hope to despatch her for London on Thursday. DEN OF RUTHVEN, FOR LONDON. This morning the tramp steamer Den of Ruthven, which has been loaded under joint charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, arrived from the Bluff. The vessel is said, to have a large grain cargo on board, and she came here only to rcbunker for her long voyage. It is hoped to despatch her for London on Wednesday. The ketch Lizzie Taylor, which arrived yesterday afternoon from Timaru, took *ten days on the trip along the coast. Calm weather, alternating with bead wind, retarded her progress. The engineer to the Lyttelton Harbour Board, in a report to the board on Wednesday, stated (reports the local Times) that if a parapet wall was to be constructed outside the edge of the eastern breakwater it would not be necesbary to expend more than half the £1000 authorised for repaus to the work, but if the parapet was not provided the full amount might be required. The breakwater could never be considered safe until protected from the seas by a parapet, which would keep the seas from washing over it. He recommended the construction of such a wall 2ft 6in higher than the present rail level at a cost of about £1500. Owing to the very rough foundation on which the wall would be placed it was extremely difficult, if not impossible, to estimate exactly the quantity of concrete that would be requited. He therefore recommended that tenders should be invited ior the necessary materials and that the concrete \ should bu mixed and deposited by day labour. The matter was referred to the Harbour Improvements Committee for a leport.
