TECHNICAL CLASSES.
OUTLOOK FOR THE ENSUING YEAR. The members of the Technical Education Board last evening indicated their confidence in and satisfaction with. Mr. J. P. Luke's administration abilities as chairman by re-electing him to the position. In returning thanks, Mr. Luke voiced his appreciation of the honour. Personally, he believed that the position of chairman should be a revolving one, but as two of the older members of the board had put his name forward, he could hardly refuse to accede to the boaid's wish. It would be his aim and object to do all in his power for the furtherance of technical education, which was in need of close attenUon and assistance. In the matter of technical education, said the new chairman, there was not that evidence of progressiveness descernible last year. Two or three sections of the work were not, at present, in too satisfactory a state. In particular, the recent plumbing examination was not at all a credit to the community. The trade work during the day had not been followed up by attendance at the classes. The commercial classes were, however, keeping up well. After a brief reference to general matters, the speaker assured members that the technical classes wefte the means of bringing the poorer portions of the community » to the advantages of a free education, which should have a good effect on the universities of the Dominion. As regarded the finances, though a substantial credit balance was apparent, it behoved the board to practise the most rigid economy in view of the present existing circumstance? and future financial possibilities. Mr. Luke thought that the electrical classes' satisfactory condition was % cause for congratulation.
