*- O'L'AGO v. SOUTHLAND MATCH. A. DIFFICULTY ABOUT. DISQUALIFIED PLAYERS. [BT TELEGBAFH —ritESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, Ist March. | The Southland Cricket Association tonight considered the position in which it is placed by the ruling of the Spojrts Federation causing three' of the players selected for the Otago v. Southland match to be considered disqualified, as by purchase of members tickets they have become members of the Southla-nd Caledonian Society, though in two cases at least the membership was confined to merely donating to the society the price of the ticket, and the membership was purely passive. The association has telegraphed to the Otago Association as follows: —"Owing to the unjust treatment we have received from the New Zealand Cricket Council, we ha-ve decided to postpone the match until we have placed our own case before the council, as we cannot endorse the disqualification placed on the three members." To the New Zealand Cricket Council the Southland Association has telegraphed : "Your council are respectfully requested to allow the match Otago v. Southland to be played on Wednesday as arranged, and that action be suspended until we have stated our case to the council, as we have %'cry serious reasons for asking that the disqualification of the Southland players be removed. Reply urgent." The position is that the match, which was. set down for Wednesday, and for which everything is in trim, will have to be postponed nnless the permission to play be granted by the New Zealand Council in time for the Otago players to be notified early to-morrow afternoon.
