At the statutory meeting of the Har- . bour Board to-day, Mr. John Graham, M.i\, was re-elected chairman for the eighth time in succession. He pointed out that the Nelson Board was the only board in New Zealand that had carried out harbour improvements to the present extent without imposing any rates.
The postal authorities advise that a Vancouver and Brindisi mail is coming through by the Auckland express this afternoon at 4.25. The funeral of the late Mr. Thomas 'Davies, who was employed as a jointer in the City Tramways Department, took place this afternoon, and was attended by members of the Tramways Union and the Pacific 'Lodge of Druids. The deceased was in his 39th year. One hundred and eight inmates are in the Ohiro Benevolent Home this week, the total being made up of 78. men and 30 women. A meeting of the trustees of the Home was held this afternoon, Mr .John Smith presiding. There were also present Miss Richmond, the Rev. W. A. Evans, Mr. R. W. Shortt, and Mr. D. Robertson. It was decided to accept the tender of Mr. A. Seaiaer, being the lowest, for the erection of shelter sheds at the Ohiro Home grounds. The directors of the Metropolitan Permanent Building and Investment Company recommend a dividend for the past year at the rate of seven per cent. Messrs. Haxcourt and Co. announce in our advertising columns that to-morrow (Wednesday), 3rd instant, they will sell by public auction, at their rooms, 195, Lambton-quay, at 3 p.m., four building sites at. Island Bay, each having a frontage of 66 feet to the Parade, Island Bay, by a depth of 165 feet, covering an area of 264- feet frontage by a doptti of 165 feet ; a two-roomed cottage with kitchen, being Eection 22, Adelaide-street, Petone, with a frontage of 40 feet by a depth of 102 feet 6 inches ; also sections 35 and 37, Torystreet, Petone, each with a frontage of 40 feet by a depth of 100 feet, with the tworoomed dwelling and kitchen and other conveniences erected thereon. Tho Rev J. Cocksr will, to-morrow night, 'ecture in the Newtowu Primitive Methodist Church on his recent visit to Palestine. The lecture will be illustrated by lantern slides. To-morrow, at 2 p.m., Messrs. Bertenshaw and Evensen will hold a sale of spring cart and van horseß, also a quantity of saddlery, at Watts's Horse Bazaar, Dixon-fctreel.
