PERSONAL MATTERS.

The Hon. D. Buddo leaves for the South this evening. Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P., left for Napier on business this morning. Mr. Felix M'Guire, ex-M.H.R. for Hawera, is at present in Wellington. Mr. E. Clifton, Chief Inspector of Stock, is to return from Auckland on the 20th instant. Mr.| Bj. B. Cotton Is gazetted an Engineering draughtsman in Ihe Public Works Department. Mr. G. F. C. Campbell, Valuer-Gen-eral, will be back in Wellington from Auckland on Monday. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) returned to Wellington from Auckland by the Wimmera to-day, Mr. C. E. Bennett is gazetted chief accountant in the Department of Roads, vice Mr. J. R. Smyth, retired. The resignation of Mr. G. H. Lightfoot, president of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, was accepted with regret last evening Captain G. G. Smith, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Wellington, and Naval Registrar for New Zealand, has j resmned his duties after enjoying holiday I leave. Colonel R. J. Collins, V.D., is at present on a visit to Whakarewarewa. Ho will proceed thence to Auckland, and after a week's stay there will return by way of New Plymouth and Wanganui. The Hon. A. W. Hogg, Minister for Labour, was entertained by his constituents at Masterton at a banquet last night, in honour of his elevation to the Ministry. The Hon. D. Buddo was amongst those present. Archdeacon Fancourl has not yet quite recovered from his illness, and will consequently be unable to preach at the opening service of the new Wadestown Church to-morrow afternoon. The Rev. T. H. Sprott will act in his stead. Mr. Herbert Bridge, eldest son of Mr. H. B. Bridge, a well-known journalist, died yesterday. Mr Bridge was a hockey enthusiast, and for many years acted as referee in the principal matches in Wellington. He was 34 years of age.
