CITY . LOANS. ONLY TWO CARRIED.
iYESTERDAY'S VOTING. The result of yesterday's poll of the ! ratepayers on the loan proposals submitted by the City Council was that only two were carried — the Wadestown tram and water supply. The chief feature of the proceedings was the lack of interest taken in the- poll," less than 2000 voting out of a total of 13,266 on the roll. The proposal to spend £27,500 on workers' homes was the most unpopular, i 519 -votes being recorded against it, and only 536 for it. Of the proposals which were lost, those of the tramways and electric lighting came nearest, to being carried, but in most of the other cases the majority against was fairly substantial. The poll was carried out by Mr. Jas. Ames (City Valuer) and liis staff, and the results were made available with commendable despatch. Following are the results in detail :—: — ACCEPTED. ,/ For. Against. Water supply, Wadestown and Northland, £22,500 280 59 Tramway to Wadestown, £40,100 186 25 REJECTED. For. Against.
