ALLEGED LIBEL.
M'LEAN v. THE TIMES AND DOMINION. His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman gave judgment at 3 p.m. to-day in the application of M'Lean and others v. the New Zealand Times Company, Limited, and the Wellington Publishing Company, Limited (the Dominion), for a more explicit statement of defence in the action brought by plaintiffs against the defendants for £2000 damages for alleged libel. After referring to the farts of the Times case, his Honour said : "I do not think, however, that the court ought to order the defendants r.eie to supply in any particular form the information which is admittedly suflicieht in substance." The summons was dismissed, with £2 2s costs. In the case of the Wellington Publishing Company, his Honour said the rase was the same save that the information had not been supplied promptly. At the same time, counsel for the defendant said he was quite willing to supply it. The application in this case was also dismissed, with two guineas costs.
