LATE SHIPPING DEPARTURES.

February 3— Kiripaka, s.s. (11.35 a.m.), 133 tons, Dixon, for Patea. February 3— Patecna, s.s. (12.50 p.m.), 1212 tons, Stewart, for Picton and Nelson. MAITAI RECOMMISSIONED. On Monday the Union Company's steamer Maitai was taken to Lyttelton fiom Port Chalmeis, where she has oeen undergoing a very thorough und extensive renovation. She is to be docked at Lyttelton, and will resume running in the course of a week or two. The Maitai is practically a new vessel, as £20,000, it is reported, has been expended in refitting and amplifying her passenger accommodation. RECORD SHIPMENT. A record shipment of wool by one steamer from New Zealand was taken from Lyttelton on Sunday by the New Zealand Shipping ComEany's Orari. In all she had on board 20,000 ales. There were, in addition, GO.OOO carcases of mutton and lamb, and a large quantity of other products. The total value of her cargo as she drew away for London is stated as half a million sterling. Yesteiday Captain Crawford resumed command of the Union Company's Kaitangata, in place of Captain Stringer, who is proceeding to Dunedin for orders. Passengers by the Rotoiti this morning from Onehunga and New Plymouth were : — Miss Skeet, Mrs. Young, Messrs. M'Burney, Wellings, Mawson, Capt. Robertson, and Master Lucas. At 3 p.m. to-day the Union Company's steamer Flora was to leave Whangarei for Wellington via East Coast bays, Gisborne, and Napier. Given fine weather for working the respective ports she should be here by Sunday next. The Patea Shipping- Company announce that they have placed the new s.s. Arapawa in the Wellington-Wanganui trade. She will leave Wellington on the first trip next Friday. Tne company propose, if sufficient support is afforded them, to make the service a regular one. Full details will.be published in a few days.
