MASTERTON ITEM 3. TBy .Telegeaph. — Special to The Post.] MASTERTON, This Day. Mr G. E. A^Hood, who has filled the position ot Inspector of Factories for the past three years, has been transferred to the Christchurch branch, and leaves for that city on Monday next. , Some very fine crops of potatoes arc growing in various parts of the district, and are quite free from disease. It" was reported that the potato blight was prevalent in certain crops, but from enquiries made by the Stock Depart ment there appears to have been no foundation for the statement. Local labour agents report a mild demand for harvesters and milkers, and state that a limited number of suitable men could now be placed. They have scores of vacancies for domestic servants. Three rinks from the Hutt Bowling Club will play matches with members of the. local club on Saturday next. A team will leave Masterton on that date for Dannevirke, where they play a match for the Dixon Cup, now held by the Dannevirke Club. NOTES FROM FEATHERSTON. FEATHEHSTON, This Day. The local Co-operative Dairy Company sends to the Home market on Thursday • week 300 cases of cheese in the Kaikoura. The milk supply at present is 3320 gallons, as compared with 2243 gallons for ths, corresponding time las.t year. The vital statistics for January are : Births 4, marriages 2, deaths 1. sToung Sherwood, who met his death by drowning through a boat accident at Palliser Bay on Sunday, was 22 years of age, and son of Mr. Frank Sherwood, of Pirinoa. Much sympathy :s felt for the bereaved parents. The Riverside property of Dr. Wallace has been leased to Messrs. Wilkinson and Lyford, of Tauherenikau. PALMERSTON MATTERS. [By Telegkaph. — Special to Thk Post.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Palmerston " Choral Society has decided to produce Mendelssohn's St. Paul shortly in aid of the Plunket Nurse Society and the St. John Ambulance Society. Stock auctioneers announce that no stock will be delivered in future unless paid for in cash. 'The death is reported at the hospital here of Mr. B. Hanlon, brother of Mr. A. C. Hanlon, the well-known Dunedin barrister. Deceased was formerly connected with the firm of Swan and Co., of Wanganui.
